1 - Como surgiu a Chaka?
Nós dois (Shalo e Matheus) somos de uma cidade do interior do Rio Grande do Sul, perto da Argentina com 25.000 habitantes. A gente se conheceu no colégio e eramos os únicos que tinham conhecimento e interesse por bandas underground de punk e metal. Aí não demorou pra montarmos uma banda de garagem e começar a tocar covers e tal... Mas a Chaka começou mesmo em 2006 quando saímos do interior e fomos morar em Porto Alegre, nessa época que surgiu o som que temos hoje. Já passaram pela banda 2 baixistas e atualmente a formação é: Shalo (vocal e guitarra), Matheus (bateria) e Stef (baixo).
2 - Comente os 3 lançamentos da Chaka.
Por enquanto foram lançados duas demos CDR (Battlefield - 2007 e Democracy and Death - 2008) e em 2009 resolvemos gravar nós mesmos alguns sons em um porão usando apenas um PC e uma mesa 4/6 canais. Esse material foi remasterizado em 2010 quando já estavamos morando na Bélgica e foi lançado em 2011 no formato de um EP 7" chamado Decay. Fora esse material, fizemos participações em algumas coletâneas e um tributo brasileiro ao Discharge que saiu esse ano.
3 - Tem previsão de um novo lançamento?
Temos uma gig que foi gravado em um tape recorder em 2010 na cidade de Maldegem e que vai ser lançado em um split em fita cassete com a banda Bulletproof da Indonésia. Também no final de 2010 nós mesmos novamente gravamos um material ao vivo no estilo 4 track recorder em um squat na Bélgica. Esse material já foi masterizado e a arte já está pronta pra ser lançado em um LP 12" ou se aparecer oportunidade de fazer um split com uma banda... Mas ainda estamos procurando selos que tenham interesse em lançar esse material.
4 - Hoje vocês vivem na Bélgica, como é a cena aí? Existe bandas legais? Quais as diferenças entre a cena belga/européia com a brasileira?
Não existe muita diferença entre a cena daqui e a do Brasil, tirando alguns fatores, como a Bélgica ser um país pequeno e localizado entre outros países onde bandas estão constantemente em turnê, o que facilita pra manter a cena rolando e ter bandas de fora tocando aqui. Outro fator é o seguro desemprego e a qualidade de vida, que ajudam a manter as bandas na ativa, com equipamento e lugar pra ensaiar. Ultimamente depois que algumas leis mudaram e está rolando uma crise financeira, vários squats fecharam e está difícil arranjar espaços que sejam acessíveis para se organizar gigs. Algumas das bandas fodas atualmente são: Nahende Vernichtung, Evil Invaders, Silence Means Death, Trouble Kids, Deafenestration, Slow Puncture, Goat Vomit... e também as antigas como: Corpus Christ, Capital Scum, Zyklome A, Hiatus, Insane Youth, Agathocles, Vision of War, Moral Demolition, The Kids, Subversion, Wulpse Varkens, Acid, Brutal Society, Warhead, Ostrogoth, Bad Lizard...
5 - Quais são os discos mais fodas?
Na real fica difícil escolher, mas da pra citar os mais influentes: Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, Motörhead - Overkill, G.B.H. - City Baby Attacked by Rats e Venom - Welcome to Hell.

1 - When was Chaka born?
We (Shalo and Matheus) are from a city in Rio Grande do Sul near Argentina with 25.000 inhabitants. We met each other in high school and we were the only guys who had knowledge and interest for underground bands of punk and metal. So we set up a garage band and started playing some covers. But Chaka really emerged in 2006 when we countryside and went to live in Porto Alegre , that was when our sound became what it is today... the band already had two bass players and now the formation is: Shalo (guitar and vocals), Matheus (drums) and Stef (bass).
2 - Discuss the three releases of Chaka.
So far we released two demos on CDR (Battlefield - 2007 and Democracy and Death - 2008) and in 2009 we decided the record some songs by ourselves in a basement using only a PC and a mixer of 4/6 channels. This material was mastered in 2010 when we were already living in Belgium and it was released in 2011 in the form of an EP 7" called Decay. We also participated in some compilations and in a brazilian Discharge tribute which was released this year.
3 - Predictions of new releases?
We have a gig that was recorded on a tape recorder in 2010 in the town of Maldegem and will be released in a split cassette tape with the band Bulletproof from Indonesia... 4 - Today you live in Belgium, how's the scene there? Are there cool bands? What are the differences between belgian/european and brazilian scene?
There is not much difference between here and Brazil, except for some factors, like, Belgium is a small country located among other countries where bands constantly on tour, making it easier to keep the scene going and having bands playing out here. Another factor is unemployment benefits and quality of life, which helps to keep the bands in action, with equipment and place to rehearse. Lately after some laws have changed and financial crises that is going on, many squats closed and is getting harder to find places that are accessible to organize gigs.
