ENTREVISTA / INTERVIEW - SHADE OF MANKIND

1 - No primeiro lançamento da Shade of Mankind, você gravou tudo sozinho.

Quem a criou?

4 - O barulho da Shade of Mankind é bem similar/influenciado pela Terrorizer (fase World Downfall). Você gosta dessa comparação? E quais as outras influências?

Quem não gostaria? Hehe.

1 - In the first release of the Shade of Mankind you recorded everything yourselves. How was this process? What hardware and software you used?

It was quiet until a friend lent the bass (I bought it then). I used Fruit Loops, EZ Drummer and Guitar Rig to record and to the mix was in Audacity.

2 - How has been the repercussion of Fallout in Brazil and abroad?

The bad thing is that when I release some merchandising of the band for people here, the people from other countries want and unfortunately I can not provide it to them, but in the near future I'm planning for our sound plague and artistic will spread more easily.

3 - The cover of Fallout was very good. Who created it?

Carlos Bueso, an old acquaintance of mine in high school hehe. But I asked him if he could do a cover, he came up with this and the question of adopting the Beak Doctor as mascot came by the fact that I have looked at this cover and go mad for it haha.

4 - The noise of the Shade of Mankind is very similar/influenced by Terrorizer (World Downfall phase). Do you like that comparison? And what are other influences?

Who would not? Hehe. But in fact, "Live (To Obey)" was a sound that was very influenced at the time and my idea was to do something along the lines of Terrorizer. In general my influences are many and varied and at the beginning of the EP was only with the idea of making a crust like Doom and Skitsystem and soon I was thinking of bands like Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Integrity, Celtic Frost among others. Now with the new lineup the band we have many influences and genres to include musically I think that we will not be stuck in one genre just try to do a song dense, heavy and dark. Now it the sound will be Black/Thrash/Death Metal and Grind I leave the decision up to the listener.

5 - At this moment the Shade of Mankind contains other members, because the band are playing live. This band formation will be fixed or just for playing live?

In the beginning was to be just live support but over time I have been integrating myself with the members and seeing that they have techniques and influences that would be useful to plan the band and they began to be fixed. The last fixed member that is missing is the bass player which for now is a friend of mine who plays in another band is doing this function but I hope his stay in the group is fixed.

6 - A new album is coming?

Yes! Luckily our last show the audience gave us support and bought a good part of our merchandising and it gave us a great of a support for recording as the drums and vocals will that be done in the studio. This saturday we will record the first crop of songs, since we have a very extensive repertoire for this our first full length, I think for now we have about 15 songs, I want to sit down with staff and see what it's worth being recorded at this time and not worth it.

7 - Rodrigo, you participate in other projects/bands. Could you mention them?

In this moment the only active project that I have is the Viruskorrosivus, hardcore band with Michel Munhoz (Gritos de Alerta, Damn Laser Vampires), Maurício Knevitz (current bass player of the Shade of Mankind) and João Carvalho (Living Hell, Distratö). A band which I feel honored to participate because the Damn Laser was one of the first bands in my town that I enjoyed very much. Besides this I have 2 projects that just do a few songs to explore other genres that I really like and one of them is the Fear & Lux, which is an EBM/Synth Pop and is something like Noir Deco, FM Attack, Gary Numan, old Ministry and etc. The other project is a kind of dark folk with shoegaze tones, for now this project has no name and I'm still doing the music. These two projects I will release music from time to time, things will not be very serious, just some sort of "holiday" to the chaos of sound.

8 - Thanks for the interview and keep the flame alive.

I thank you for the space and soon we will have new material and the plague will spread.

SOULFLY - ENSLAVED

Álbum do caralho!!! Em "Treachery", Max berra "This is Treachery" e o pau começa a quebrar de forma rápida e pesada.

Great album!!! "Enslaved" begins with "Resistance", this song is industrial, reminding Nailbomb. Then "World Scum" a very brutal music, because it's total death metal and Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation) is the special guest on vocals. "Intervention" is heavy music and the guitar riffs follow something already done in "Dark Ages" and "Omen" but I highlight the fast parts of the double pedals made by David Kinkade (ex Borknagar). "Gladiator" the groove allied with the constant double pedals, then the band has the experimental moment and then the band plays the chaos. "Legions" is fast and that's thrash/death metal, where at the end of this song the shots are heard. "American Steel" remember something like Sepultura. "Redemption of Man by God" Dez Fafara is the special guest on vocals (ex Coal Chamber, Devildriver) and this song begins melodic and heavy guitars arrive for contrast with two very good guitar solos made by Marc Rizzo and when this song is ending, back to be melodic. "Treachery" Max yells loud "This is Treachery" and the destruction begins quickly and heavily. "Plata O Plomo" is my favorite song on this album, because this lyrics is great and refers to Pablo Escobar and it is singing in Portuguese by Max and Spanish by Tony Campos (Asesino, Ministry, Possessed and Prong), and he was also responsible for the bass on "Enslaved" and this song is very heavy with beautiful acoustic end. "Chains" the feeling of terror and this is done by a guitar, which becomes a heavy cadence followed by pretty crazy solos and with the progress of the music becomes brutal death metal. "Revengeance" the sons of Max, Igor (vocals), Zyon (drums) and his stepson, Richie (vocals), hardcore/metal song. "Slave" is a typical music of Soulfly and at the end the following words are said by Max: "Zumbi é o senhor das guerras...". "Bastard" the groove is heavy and the lyrics are very strong and hostile. Finishing the album brilliantly "Soulfly VIII" a calm and relaxing instrumental track with acoustic guitar, guitar, drums, percussion and the violin by Tim Sadow. In short: "Enslaved" is the most brutal album made by Soulfly. Max Cavalera is singing very well and he created great lyrics for this work. Marc Rizzo made the best album of his career, he is playing and creating much. Tony Campos is a veteran in the scene and he did what had to be done, no bullshit. David Kinkade destroyed the drums and he excelled in all the songs. Releases of 2012, "Enslaved" is one of the best. Brazilian Marcelo Vasco is the author of the cover art for "Enslaved" and that work is sensational, badass! The album cover art reminded me quite the movie "Hellraiser", which has a cube called the Lament Configuration, which in the case is opened, it takes the individual to another dimension where the Cenobites live, they feel pleasure through pain of others. Chains, hooks and handcuffs come out of darkness and detonate the person who opened the cube as you can see the cover art.

- Carolina Scagliusi

Yet another excellent album from Test. João Kombi (vocals and guitars) and Thiago Barata (drums) are the duo behind this insanity. Both recording, music and lyrics of "Árabe Macabre" are great. Regarding the recording and release of this download, the band made a campaign by Catarse site (crowdfounding), where admirers contributed to the expenses of the work. No doubt "Árabe Macabre" is one of the best 2012 releases. Congratulations! This cover art that is beautiful, was made by Carolina Scagliusi. "This is a fantastic landscape that refers to knowledge and occult powers and the Arab conquests during the Middle Ages. In particular, the trajectory of the prince named Abd ar-Rahman, the sole survivor of the massacre of his family, who crossed North Africa from Damascus in Syria to the Iberian Peninsula and founded the kingdom of Al-Andalus, an important cultural center, political and religious, based on tolerance and understanding, something that never existed in history, and laid the foundations for the Renaissance and the Enlightenment in Europe." - Carolina Scagliusi

FUCK OFF AND DIE - SOCIOPATHIC REGRESSION

Hardcore attitude, acoustic terrorism 'till alcoholic coma and fuck you all. Nothing else to say, listen to the music.

Hate, indifference and alcoholism!!! This is the motto of Fuck Off and Die, one-man band from Lithuania and today is living in Italy. The band's sound is a mix of old black metal/thrash metal with hardcore and this new album is well in line with previous work. "Sociopathic Regression" is a very rotten and aggressive record with pessimistic lyrics. If you like bands and the behavior of guys like GG Allin and Nattefrost, you will surely like Fuck Off and Die because it's the same attitude! This album is very good and also contains a cover song of the band Silencer. Hardcore attitude, acoustic terrorism 'till alcoholic coma and fuck you all. Nothing else to say, listen to the music.

ENTREVISTA / INTERVIEW - UTOPIUM

O título do álbum será "Vicious Consolation/Virtuous Totality".

JR

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

1 - The Utopium released a split EP with the band Lifedeceiver which was very good. How born this release?

Bruno (Lifedeceiver) is a friend of the band and Jimmy (our drummer) also plays with them. One day we had the idea of doing a split since we are friends and the two bands have a something common but with different sounds and we decided to proceed with the project. The art was made by Michael (vocal - Lifedeceiver) and I think everything was excellent!

2 - About Lifedeceiver you could tell a little about them?

The Lifedeceiver are a Hardcore band from Leria with influences that go behind standards of the genre and this makes them sound very interesting . Live the band is very strong and they are all cool people.

3 - The cover song the band Siege was a homage to Kevin Mahoney?

The cover song the band Siege had already been thought and recorder long before the death of Kevin. It was an unfortunable coincidence. Either way is homage.

4 - A new album is to be released and how it called? Could you give details of this release?

The album title is "Vicious Consolation/Virtuous Totality". It will be a concept album and unusual within the genus. It's an album more mature. More visceral and agressive. I think that will show our evolution as a band.

5 - Once again thank you and looking forward to this new noise that is coming.

ENTREVISTA / INTERVIEW - CHAKA

- City Baby Attacked by Rats e Venom - Welcome to Hell.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

1 - When was Chaka born?

We (Shalo and Matheus) are from a city in Rio Grande do Sul near Argentina with 25.000 inhabitants. We met each other in high school and we were the only guys who had knowledge and interest for underground bands of punk and metal. So we set up a garage band and started playing some covers. But Chaka really emerged in 2006 when we countryside and went to live in Porto Alegre , that was when our sound became what it is today... the band already had two bass players and now the formation is: Shalo (guitar and vocals), Matheus (drums) and Stef (bass).

2 - Discuss the three releases of Chaka.

So far we released two demos on CDR (Battlefield - 2007 and Democracy and Death - 2008) and in 2009 we decided the record some songs by ourselves in a basement using only a PC and a mixer of 4/6 channels. This material was mastered in 2010 when we were already living in Belgium and it was released in 2011 in the form of an EP 7" called Decay. We also participated in some compilations and in a brazilian Discharge tribute which was released this year.

3 - Predictions of new releases?

We have a gig that was recorded on a tape recorder in 2010 in the town of Maldegem and will be released in a split cassette tape with the band Bulletproof from Indonesia... Also in late 2010 we recorded ourselves in the 4 track recorder style live in a squat in Belgium. This material has been mastered and the artwork is ready to be released on LP 12" or if there is an opportunity to do a split with a band... but we are still looking for labels that are interested in releasing this material!

4 - Today you live in Belgium, how's the scene there? Are there cool bands? What are the differences between belgian/european and brazilian scene?

There is not much difference between here and Brazil, except for some factors, like, Belgium is a small country located among other countries where bands constantly on tour, making it easier to keep the scene going and having bands playing out here. Another factor is unemployment benefits and quality of life, which helps to keep the bands in action, with equipment and place to rehearse. Lately after some laws have changed and financial crises that is going on, many squats closed and is getting harder to find places that are accessible to organize gigs. Nowadays some of the cool bands are: Nahende Vernichtung, Evil Invaders, Silence Means Death, Trouble Kids, Deafenestration, Slow Puncture, Goat Vomit... and also have the old bands as: Corpus Christ, Capital Scum, Zyklome A, Hiatus, Insane Youth, Agathocles, Vision of War, Moral Demolition, The Kids, Subversion, Wulpse Varkens, Acid, Brutal Society, Warhead, Ostrogoth, Bad Lizard...

5 - Which are the best albums ever?

Well, it is hard to choose but to name the most influential: Discharge - Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, Motörhead - Overkill, G.B.H. - City Baby Attacked by Rats and Venom - Welcome to Hell.

6 - Chaka, thanks for the interview, the space is yours, say whatever you want.
