ENTREVISTA / INTERVIEW - DEATH FROM ABOVE

1 - Glauco, conte como surgiu a Death From Above?

Então a banda surgiu no início de 2006, eu estava meio entediado porque as minhas outras duas bandas tinha chegado ao fim (Neurose Urbana e Chaotix) e eu tava numa fissura de tocar. E como eu sou um d-beat maníaco, eu tinha pensando em montar um projeto voltado pra essa linha de som. Mas não queria fazer um som d-beat clichê, chato e sem graça como muitas bandas fazem por aí, clones de Disclose, etc... queria fazer algo mais voltado para as raízes pegando influências de bandas como Discharge (singles), Antisect (demos) Disaster, Discard, MG15, EU's Arse, The Iconoclast e também do Disclose (no início da banda), então chamei um amigo que tocava no Sociofobia pra tocar baixo, aí o maior problema era um batera pra tocar d-beat. A ideia original era pro Fofão tocar a bateria mas a distância impediu isso, já que ele mora no DF. Assim chamamos o Ratão (Neurose Urabana) pra ajudar no inicio, depois veio o Hassan (Desastre) com quem gravamos a demo, e logo ele saiu e entrou o Slake com quem gravamos todos os materiais a seguir.

2 - Quais as influências da banda?
Como coloquei acima a influência básica era banda d-beat dos anos 80, algumas conhecidas e outras bem obscuras que ajuda a entender a sonoridade crua da época; Fader War, Subversion, Warwound, Solvent Abuse, Death Sentence, Underage, War of Destruction, Crucifix, U.B.R, Unruled, Plasmid, Bannlyst, Crow, Final Warning, Diatribe, Scapegoats e mais...

4 - A cena no estado de Goiás é forte?

Cara, eu não diria que existe uma CENA propriamente dito, mas sim existe um uma boa movimentação que vem acontecendo de uns 3 anos pra cá e eu fico feliz por isso. Pelo fato das pessoas envolvidas no meio punk deixarem de ser espectadoras para ser parte atuante no que consite esta cena punk. Bom, tem surgido muitas bandas novas, cada uma com sua influência musical e característica de pensamento e no que querem trasmitir com a banda. Algumas boas bandas daqui são; Sociofobia, W.C.M., Tirei Zero, Impeto, Corja, Gerações Perdidas (estarei lançando o CD dessa banda em breve, que é a melhor banda punk da cidade atualmente), Livre?, Descarga Negativa, Entre os Dentes, Abalo Sísmico, Dejeto HC, Tarja Preta e entre outras. Existe poucos espaços para fazer nossos eventos, ultimamente revesamos os shows entre 2 espaços que é o CAPIM PUB, já um espaço clássico que rola eventos a vários anos, e o OLD STUDIO que é um espçao muito bom pra fazer eventos e comporta umas 150 pessoas por aí. Fora isso a galera se movimenta produzindo algumas coisas como zines, infos, tem um pessoal que vende comida vegetariana em shows, tem uma amigo que tocava comigo na Neurose Urbana que está fazendo cerveja caseira e também existe um espaço alternativo cultural de um pessoal libertário e anarquista chamado INDIGESTO, onde vive um galera e produzem muita coisa lá. Fora isso não há muito mais coisa, a cidade é pequena e o que domina aqui é essa coisa de STONER ROCK e INDIE ROCK. Então, os espaços e oportunidades pro cenário punk é meio limitado, mas a gente nunca para de produzir. Mas pelo menos uma coisa é legal, toda semana tem alguma coisa pra fazer, em uma cidade que não é turistica e só existe BAR em quase toda esquina, ainda rola shows alternativos e festas toda semana. Diversão é certa!

5 - Já tocaram em outros estados?

Sim! Fizemos duas mini tour em SP, uma em 2008 com 3 shows e outra em 2009. Também tocamos várias vezes no DF (Brasília, Gama, Águas Lindas, Ceilândia, etc...). Fora esses lugares não tocamos em mais nenhum lugar.


6 - Pelo fato de a banda ser de um estado próximo ao Distrito Federal, qual é a postura da banda e demais pessoas em relação a isso? Pergunto isso pelo fato de Brasília ser capital do país e grande palco da corrupção.

O sentimento que todos temos é o mesmo para o resto do Brasil; indignação, revolta e um profundo desprezo a tudo que envolva a política da corrupção das falsas promessas, do desejo desenfreado por dinheiro, do acobertamento de denúncias e tudo mais. Nos sentimos impotente diante do poder e da opressão que nos é imposto. E que faz com as pessoas apenas se conformem e aceite tudo como um rebanho fiel, é triste mas é a nossa realidade, uma merda diga-se de passagem. Hahaahaha. O que nos cabe fazer? Sei lá, talvez jogar uma bomba naquele lugar, acho que seria a única solução pra resolver o problema.

Puts! Meu top 5? Cara, isso é muuuito difícil, mas vou colocar os primeiros que vem em minha mente:

1 - Glauco, you can tell how born Death From Above?

The band came in early 2006, I was kinda bored because my other two bands had come to an end (Neurose Urbana and Chaotix) and I was eager to play. I'm a d-beat maniac, I was thinking of doing a project directed to this type of sound. But I did not wanted do a d-beat sound cliched and boring as many bands do, clones of Disclose, etc... I wanted to do something more focused on the roots taking influences from bands like Discharge (singles), Antisect (demos) Disaster, Discard, MG15, EU's Arse, The Iconoclast and also Disclose (at the beginning of the band) then I called a friend who played in the band Sociofobia to play bass and the biggest problem there was a drummer to play d-beat. The original idea was Fofão to play the drums but the distance prevented this happen since he lives in Distrito Federal. So we called Ratão (Neurose Urbana) to help at first, then came Hassan (Desastre) who recorded the demo and then he left and joined Slake who recorded all the material below.

2 - What are the influences of the band?

As I said above the basic influence was d-beat band of the 80's some known bands and others obscure that helps to understand the raw sound of the time; Fader War, Subversion, Warwound, Solvent Abuse, Death Sentence, Underage, War of Destruction, Crucifix, U.B.R, Unruled, Plasmid, Bannlyst, Crow, Final Warning, Diatribe, Scapegoats and more...

4 - The scene in the state of Goiás is strong?

Man, I would not say that there is a SCENE itself but there is a good move that has been happening for about 3 years there and I'm happy about that. Because the people involved in the punk they stop of being spectators and become part of what consists this atutante punk scene. Well, there have appeared many new bands, each with its musical influences and feature thinking and conveying what they want with the band. Here are some good bands: Sociofobia, W.C.M., Tirei Zero, Impeto, Corja, Gerações Perdidas (I'll be releasing the CD of this band soon, which is the best punk band of the city now), Livre?, Descarga Negativa, Entre Os Dentes, Abalo Sísmico, Dejeto HC, Tarja Preta and others. There is little space to make our events, concerts lately revesamos between two spaces is the CUPIM PUB, a classic venue that happens to events several years and OLD STUDIO and a space that is too big to do events and holds about 150 people there. I have a friend who played with me in the band Neurosis Urbana who is making homemade beer and there is an alternative/cultural space for anarchists and libertarians called INDIGESTO, home to a people who produce many things. Around here there are few options, the city is small and that dominates here is this thing STONER ROCK and INDIE ROCK. The spaces and opportunities pro punk scene is kinda limited, but we never stop producing. But at least one thing is cool, every week has something to do, the city is not touristy and has bar on every corner and yet rolls alternative shows and parties every week. Fun is right!

5 - You have played in other brazilian states?

Yes! We played two mini tour in São Paulo, one in 2008 with three shows and another in 2009. We also played several times in the Distrito Federal (Brasília, Gama, Águas Lindas, Ceilândia, etc...). Outside these places do not play anywhere else.

6 - The band resides in a state close to the Distrito Federal, which is the position of the band and others people about it? I ask this because Brasília is the capital of Brazil and big stage of corruption.

The feeling that we all have is the same for the rest of Brazil; indignation, revolt and a deep contempt for everything involving corrupt politics of the false promises, unbridled desire for money, the cover-up of complaints and several other things. We feel helpless before the power and oppression imposed on us. And that makes people just conform and accept everything as a faithful flock, it's sad but it is our reality, a really shit. Hahaahaha. What we must do? I don't know, maybe throw a bomb that place, I think would be the only solution to solve the problem.
