The Mist was born from the ashes of Mayhem (this is a band from Belo Horizonte, not to be confused with the Norwegians) and the inspiration for the name of the band was the song "War And Pain" by Voivod (this part was new to me when I read on epoch the article made by Sounds Like You - read here - but this is only available in Portuguese) and soon after they released their first album Phantasmagoria, which was released in 1989, a decade that many consider the golden age of metal, both for the scene of Minas Gerais and wordwide. Phantasmagoria is an album that remains very good after all these years and this can be proven after the return of The Mist to the stage in 2019, where the audience was present in large numbers at the shows and the guys did not disappoint in the presentation (you can check out the videos on Youtube) and this is mainly due to the 30th anniversary of the first full-length album. Phantasmagoria is a genuinely Brazilian thrash metal album and this is not a kind of bairrism, I say this because The Mist does not sound exactly like German and American bands in this musical genre, thus creating a sound more in their own way and original (just listen to the album that you will understand), besides, it is very important to say that the lyrics were made before the songs, that is, the sounds of the instruments follow the rhythm and are in accordance with each phrase or feeling inserted in the lyrics, a kind of thrash metal soundtrack. Composed of ten tracks, I highlight "Fly Saucers In The Sky", "Smiles, Tears And Chaos", "The Enemy" (my favorite), "Hate" (strong song!), "Barbed Wire Land (At War)" and "Phantasmagoria". Phantasmagoria was recorded by Gauguin (he also recorded Chakal, Cirrhosis, Dorsal Atlântica, Headhunter D.C., Holocausto, Mutilator, Overdose, Ratos de Porão, Sarcófago, Sepultura, Vulcano and other bands) at the famous and important JG Studio in Belo Horizonte, the cover art was made by Kelson Frost, another important person in the metal scene of Minas Gerais (he made cover arts for bands like Chakal, Em Ruínas, Pathologic Noise, Sarcófago and Witchhammer, for example) and has two versions: the first cover art was the first pressing released by Cogumelo Records in 1989 and the second was the re-released by Greyhaze Records in 2017. Anyway, The Mist is one of the most important and fundamental bands within the metal scene in Brazil, because they have helped to create, build and spread this mist in the form of good music over the years. The Mist nasceu das cinzas do Mayhem (essa é uma banda de BH, não confunda com os noruegueses) e tiveram como inspiração para o nome da banda a música "War And Pain" do Voivod (essa parte foi novidade pra mim quando li a matéria feita pela Sounds Like You - leia aqui) e logo em seguida soltaram o seu primeiro álbum Phantasmagoria que foi lançado em 1989, década essa que muitos consideram a era de ouro do metal, tanto para cena mineira, como mundial. Phantasmagoria é um álbum que continua sendo muito bom depois de todos esses anos e isso pode ser comprovado depois da volta da The Mist aos palcos em 2019, onde o público compareceu em massa nos shows e os caras não decepcionaram nas apresentações (você pode conferir os vídeos no Youtube) e isso se deve em razão principalmente do aniversário de trinta anos do primeiro full-length. Phantasmagoria é um álbum de thrash metal genuinamente brasileiro e isso não é nenhum tipo de bairrismo, digo isso em virtude do The Mist não soar exatamente igual as bandas alemãs e americanas desse gênero musical, criando assim um som mais da maneira deles e original (basta escutar o álbum que você vai entender), além do mais, é de suma importância dizer que as letras foram feitas primeiro que as músicas, ou seja, os sons dos instrumentos seguem o ritmo e estão de acordo com cada frase ou sentimento inserido nas letras, uma espécie de trilha sonora thrash metal. Composto por dez faixas, eu destaco "Fly Saucers In The Sky", "Smiles, Tears And Chaos", "The Enemy" (a minha favorita), "Hate" (porrada!), "Barbed Wire Land (At War)" e "Phantasmagoria". Phantasmagoria foi gravado por Gauguin (ele gravou também Chakal, Cirrhosis, Dorsal Atlântica, Headhunter D.C., Holocausto, Mutilator, Overdose, Ratos de Porão, Sarcófago, Sepultura, Vulcano e dentre outras bandas) no famoso e importante JG Studio em BH, já a capa foi feita por Kelson Frost, outra pessoa importante no cenário do metal mineiro (ele fez capas para bandas como Chakal, Em Ruínas, Pathologic Noise, Sarcófago e Witchhammer, por exemplo) e tem duas versões: a primeira capa é a da primeira prensagem lançada pela Cogumelo em 1989 e a segunda é do relançamento feito pela Greyhaze Records em 2017. Enfim, The Mist é uma das bandas mais importantes e fundamentais dentro do cenário metálico no Brasil, pois eles ajudaram a criar, construir e espalhar esse nevoeiro em forma de boa música através dos anos.
